ESPN.com’s NBA Insider Chad Ford claims the big rumor of the day is that the Hawks are looking to trade Josh Smith.

The Hawks have some financial issues coming into the summer. Two key players, Mike Bibby and Marvin Williams, are free agents. So are a few others on the roster — Josh Childress, Zaza Pachulia and Ronald Murray.

Atlanta Hawks power forward Josh Smith left Friday’s game against the Toronto Raptors in the first quarter with a sprained left ankle. The high-flying power forward is expected to miss two to four weeks with a high ankle sprain.

On Friday last week, Memphis Grizzlies signed restricted free agent, Josh Smith, to a five year $58 million offer sheet. This gave the Hawks seven days to match the offer and they acted quickly by signing the high flying forward earlier this morning.

Josh Childress spent his first years in the NBA with Atlanta Hawks and he is now a restricted free agent. Unfortunately, he is not pleased with how his club is neglecting any contract talks with him until they have signed Josh Smith. As a result, his agent has been looking to Europe to create some value for his client.
