It is finally official: Alonzo Mourning is back with the Miami Heat.
Only this time, instead of grabbing rebounds, blocking shots and flexing his biceps after ferocious dunks, Mourning will mentor players and assist in community activities. The Heat announced Thursday that Mourning, 39, has been named vice president of player programs.

With Alonzo Mourning’s Heat number retired, Tim Hardaway said, ”I deserve to be up there” too.
Hardaway attributes his inability to get an NBA job to his 2007 ”I don’t like gay people” comment — despite his apologies.

It has been rumored for weeks that the Miami Heat have been looking to add NBA veteran, Jamaal Magloire to their team. According to sources, the Heat will sign Magloire today for the veteran minimum expected to be worth around $1.9 million.

Mourning vs. Magloire
Last year in December, Alonzo Mourning tore his patellar tendon in his right knee. The injury kept him out of action for the remainder of the season. Since then, he has been dedicated to return for one last stint with the Heat but his employers are uncertain whether he will physically hold up or not. At the age of 38, Zo’s body might just have taken its toll.
