Kevin Garnett, acutely aware of Rajon Rondo’s negotiation for a contract extension, came to the point with his young point guard early in training camp.
“You don’t just play with it during negotiations or when you’re trying to make a point,” Garnett later said of his message for Rondo. “Every year you get a jersey, you’re trying to prove a point, trying to get better. . . . this is your mindset.”
The Celtics and Rondo have until Oct. 31 to reach agreement on an extension. Otherwise, he will become a restricted free agent next summer.
