Carmelo Anthony hit a three-pointer with one second left in regulation to give the Nuggets a dramatic 106-105 win over the Mavericks on Saturday afternoon.
Before Anthony sank the game-winning shot, Antoine Wright tried twice to commit a foul on Anthony but the referees did not blow the whistle. In a highly unusual turn of events, the NBA issued an official statement after the game admitting that the refereeing crew missed the call.
“At the end of the Dallas-Denver game this evening, the officials missed an intentional foul committed by Antoine Wright on Carmelo Anthony, just prior to Anthony’s three-point basket,” NBA executive Joel Litvin said in the statement.
The Nuggets are now one win away from an appearance in the Western Conference Finals.
