Sean May’s contract, originally signed after the Bobcats drafted him 13th in the summer of 2005, expires in July. It seems unlikely the Bobcats would make a $3.6 million qualifying offer to restrict his free agency.
Monday was just his fourth appearance in the past 44 games. Being a starter in the season opener and being voted Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four in 2005 both seem ancient history.
He is now the Bobcats’ fourth power forward behind Boris Diaw, Vladimir Radmanovic and Juwan Howard. Bitterness might be a predictable response, but May understands how to be a good teammate.
“I wish I was playing more, but now we’re in a playoff hunt, something I’ve never been a part of, so I need to not be upset,” he said.
