According to sources, a trade involving current Sacramento King, John Salmons, will likely happen before the trading deadline on Thursday.
There are a few options apparently on the table from teams such as the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Portland Trail Blazers and the Dallas Mavericks along with a few other teams that have not been revealed. Both Portland and Oklahoma City are believed to be the leaders in the group drawing the most interest from the Kings.
The Trailblazers are willing to part ways with Channing Frye, who has an expiring contract worth $3.2 million, and the Thunder’s offer would involve forward Joe Smith’s expiring deal worth $4.8 million.
If the Kings do trade Salmons, it will be apparent that they are looking to rebuild their franchise and create cap space for the 2010 blockbuster free agent summer. John is currently owed $5.1 million this season and $5.4 million next season with a player option worth $5.8 million for the 2010-11 season.
