David Lee
According to a league source, the Blazers have made another late push to acquire David Lee from the Knicks. The problem is that Knick president Donnie Walsh has told teams interested in Lee that he only comes bundled with injured center Eddy Curry.
“I’m not worried about that. Whatever happens, happens,” Lee said. “Hopefully I’ll be here, but I have no way of controlling that.”
Packaging Lee with Curry is perhaps the only way Walsh will give up on the Knicks’ popular power forward. If the Knicks are able to get rid off Curry’s contract they will be far enough under the 2010 cap to sign two maximum free agents.
The Blazers are shopping the expiring contract of Raef LaFrentz, who is out for the season but whose salary would make it possible to add Curry. The Knicks would likely have interest in a low-cost talent such as Portland guard Sergio Rodriguez.
