Baron Davis
The Rockets, who are still coping with the loss of Tracy McGrady’s season ending injury, apparently have not given up on the 2008-09 season. Houston has moved into negotiations with the Clippers for point guard Baron Davis, a source close to Davis told Sporting News on Wednesday.
Baron Davis (29) will be able to provide the Houston Rockets with a scoring presence but he does come with a huge risk — he is in the first year of a five-year contract that will pay him $65 million.
The former UCLA Bruin was supposed to be a building block for the Clippers. Unfortunately, his style of play did not mesh well with coach Mike Dunleavy. Davis is averaging 15.5 points, his lowest total in nine years. The team is just 13-41, coming off a humbling 140-100 loss to the Suns.
If the Clippers can get out of Davis’ contract now, they are believed to seize the opportunity, even if it means taking back the oft-injured McGrady in return.
