Gerald Wallace scored 15 points in Bobcats double-overtime victory over the Lakers before a flagrant foul by Andrew Bynum knocked him to the floor. In the collision, Wallace suffered a partially collapsed left lung and fractured a rib.
The Bobcats said Wednesday that 30 to 40% of Wallace’s left lung collapsed because of the collision with Bynum and Wallace also suffered a broken rib. After getting a CT scan at Centinela Hospital, Wallace had a chest tube inserted into the lung to help restore full function.
Team spokesman B.J. Evans said there was no immediate indication on when Wallace would rejoin the team, or even when he would return to Charlotte. Veteran forward Juwan Howard replaced Wallace in the starting lineup game against Portland.
The NBA is now reviewing the flagrant foul called against Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum that landed Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace in the hospital to determine if any disciplinary action should be taken.
