The Memphis Grizzlies acquired an old face on Wednesday when they traded for injury plagued guard Steve Francis from the Houston Rockets. In return, the Grizzlies received a 2011 second round draft pick.
According to ESPN, the trade also called for Memphis to reacquire a 2009 second-rounder, which it had dealt to Houston on draft day in June, and for the Rockets, according to NBA front-office sources, to pay the remainder of Francis’ $2.6 million salary for this season.
The Grizzlies made the trade with the intent of giving the 31 year old an opportunity to prove that he could still play.
Sources have also said the Rockets wanted to free up on roster spot, so they can potentially sign Dikembe Mutombo, who has been a free agent since the end of last season.
