After an altercation with his coach in Bologna, Italy, Earl Boykins might be heading to Los Angeles to play NBA basketball again.
The 5-foot-5, 135-pound guard signed with Virtus Bologna after not receiving any attractive offers this past summer as an unrestricted free agenst. Boykins is currently the team’s leading scorer at 16.3 points per game. He also leads the team in average minutes played, free-throw percentage, steals and assists.
However, despite a stellar performance, Boykins might be cut by his Italian team because he requested four days off for the Christmas holidays to fly back to the United States. The request was denied but Boykins reportedly flew home, anyway, to spend time with his family.
With Jordan Farmar out for at least eight weeks while recovering from knee surgery, the Lakers have a need for an experienced guard. Earl Boykins could fill that role.
