On opening night, nine days ago, Greg Oden unfortunately suffered another bad spell when he sprained his right foot in the first quarter against the Lakers. His rehab schedule was set to 2-4 weeks, with another prognosis emphasizing a return closer to the 2 rather than the 4.
His team, the Portland Trail Blazers, are set to go on a four-game trip to Orlando, Miami, New Orleans and Minnesota but Oden’s spot on the team plane for that trip is doubtful.
“My conversations a week ago was that he could possibly be ready for practice on Sunday (in Orlando), which is our first practice on that trip,” McMillan said. “But now, it’s looking like he might not be able to run.”
The question is, do you bring Oden with you or not? The majority of Oden’s rehab work has been done in the team’s pool, and if he goes on the trip, he will not be able to proceed with these exercises. On the other end of the hand, if Oden does rapidly heal within two weeks, his services as a big man would be highly sought after on the road trip. Especially, when the Blazers go up against Dwight Howard and the Magic.
