After months of speculation on how Monta Ellis sustained his injury, he finally admits that it did not occur during a pickup basketball game or training for the regular season. Apparently, Ellis was riding a moped at “low-speed” when he injured himself.
As a result, he tore his deltoid ligament in his ankle and had surgery on August 27th. He is expected to be on the injured list for at least two months.
The Golden State Warriors have yet to decide on how Ellis will be punished. Since this is a banned activity in his contract, the Warriors can terminate his 6 year $66 million deal, but it is unlikely that will happen.
It looks as if they will only hand Monta a hefty fine and chalk it up as the “youngster’s maturation process” according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
