After spending the summer in a feud with the Chicago Bulls for a long term contract, Ben Gordon is expected to attend media day and training camp this week. He will sign a one year qualifying offer for $6.4 millon by Wednesday and become a free agent at the end of this season.
This becomes the second summer in a row where Gordon has not signed a long term contract with the Bulls. Last year, he rejected a 5 year, $50 million contract extension.
It is believed that Gordon is looking for a contract that will pay him around $12 million per season. However, Bulls Chairman, Jerry Reinsdorf is not willing to pay him that much because it will force the team to pay a luxury-tax.
According to sources, the Bulls would like to keep Gordon in their backcourt along with rookie sensation, Derrick Rose. Since Ben is a pure shooter and Rose is penetrating point guard, the two compliment each other’s game very well.
