On September 19, Tau Ceramica, announced the signing of former University of Arizona point-guard, Mustafa Shakur, to a one-year contract. This lead many to believe that the Goran Dragic to Phoenix Suns saga would finally come to an end as Shakur might be used as his replacement with the Spanish side.
And now it has finally been confirmed that it is a done deal — 3 months after Dragic originally worked out with the team. After finances were completed, Dragic signed on to a 4-year contract with a team option on the last year. The only thing left on the agenda is for Dragic to head back to his home country, Slovenia, to finalize the work visa permits.
The Suns are planning to immediately use the 22-year-old as a backup to Steve Nash. Dragic has been in Phoenix for about a month after his buyout negotiations were completed but he has been limited to working out sessions rather than playing basketball with the team because he did not have a contract. Does anybody else smell Rookie of the Year honors?
