The United States beat China 101-70 in their first game at the Olympics in Beijing. China opened very strong and took the lead in the first quarter. However, after some adjustments by coach Krzyzewski, Team USA responded a lot better defensively and put an end to the Chinese three pointers. China went 7/11 from beyond the arch in the first quarter alone.
Dwyane Wade looked spectacular off the bench with 19 Points and LeBron James showcased one of his best international performances with 18 Points, 6 Rebounds, 4 Assists, and 3 Blocked Shots. More importantly, even though Team USA looked great offensively, they also recorded 12 steals — most of which led straight to transition dunks and easy points.
