This morning, The Phoenix Suns sent D.J. Strawberry to Houston Rockets in exchange for Sean Singletary. The general consensus in Phoenix was that Strawberry would not be able to run the offense, nor establish himself as a defensive stopper. More importantly, the trade will save the Suns about $540,000, including projected luxury-tax savings.
Sean Singletary is a rookie who played four years in Virginia. As a senior, he averaged 19.8 points and 6.1 assists per game. He is known for playmaking and full-court defense but his main disadvantage is perimeter shooting.
David Griffin, Suns Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations, was impressed by Singletary’s performance at the NBA’s pre-draft camp where he averaged an assist-to-turnover ratio of 5-1.
