Many people thought that we have seen the end of Darius Miles in the NBA. However, the defending champions, Boston Celtics, have reportedly signed him to a contract. Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.
Danny Ainge, Celtics Executive Director of Basketball Operations/General Manager, said that Miles had worked out twice with the team and that he impressed the entire organization with his athleticism, as well as, attitude.
If there is one team in the league that probably wished that Miles did not return to the NBA it would be the Portland Trailblazers. If Miles plays in more than 10 games in either of the next two seasons, they are obligated to pay him the remaining $27 million of his contract.
In 2006, Miles underwent a microfracture knee surgery and earlier this summer, he faced a 10-game suspension for violating the league’s Anti-Drug program. It will be interesting to see whether Miles gets a solid opportunity to redeem himself in Boston or not. Certainly, the crowd in Portland would like to see him play against his former team?
