Today, the Los Angeles Clippers waived Josh Powell. Last season, in 64 games he averaged 5 points and 5 rebounds in 62 games. This opening will have the Clippers on the hunt for possibly Leandro Barbosa.

This morning, the USA Olympic team defeated the Turkish team 114-82. In the first quarter, the Americans started out sloppy allowing 10 straight field goals and were forced to 8 turnovers but the second quarter was a little different when they outscored the Turkish team 23-8. Once the second half started the Americans kept their composure and kept flying high like ducks outscoring Turkey 60-45.

The Sacramento Kings are trying to unload some high-paying contracts and one player on the move seems to be their starting center, Brad Miller. The Kings feel that their first round pick last season, Spencer Hawes, will be ready to fill the void that Miller leaves behind.

Luol Deng has just signed a 6 year deal with the Chicago Bulls. Negotiations with Ben Gordon, on the other hand, have not been as successful so far. As a matter of fact, Gordon is so tired of waiting that he is now looking at options overseas where he might receive a more lucrative contract.

Former Kentucky Wildcat star, Randolph Morris has agreed to sign with the Atlanta Hawks. It is reported to be a 2 year deal worth $1.7 million, the league’s minimum. Morris apparently had a great run during the Hawks 2 day mini-camp and made a good impression upon management. It is believed that Morris will serve as a back up for center’s Al Horford and Zaza Pachulia.

Luol Deng and the Chicago Bulls are about to close in on a six year deal worth $70 million that will make him running with the Bulls through 2013.
The Bulls had previously offered Deng a higher extension but he chose to decline it because he wanted to explore other options. When he did not receive any love from around the league, Luol Deng was quick on resuming negotiations with the team that drafted him.

Last night, Yao Ming returned with China’s Olympic team and had a strong game, scoring 21 points in 28 minutes of play. He went 8-10 from the field and grabbed 11 rebounds. He wasn’t even showing any sort of tiredness on the court and looked as he has been recovering from an injury.

The Sacramento Kings have agreed on trading Ron Artest to the Houston Rockets for Bobby Jackson, a first round pick in 2009, and another player who is rumored to be either Carl Landry or Shane Battier. There is also some cash involved in the deal.
